Learnings & Conclusion

Understanding the end-user, being in their own skin was key to success. Using patterns from the tools they already know, and testing our product in real situations with real users was sometimes painful but brought us very quickly further into knowing our next action points.

Outcome

MVP

Successfully launched an MVP for agile testing, leading to data-driven future enhancements and preserving the app's customization through "Edit Mode."

RESULTS

+13% Conversion

+11% Retention in the first week

NEXT STEPS

Rework the editing features missing from the MVP and further iterations based on research.

See Live

FURTHER ITERATIONS

We did a second round of research and design iteration, to see the process go here.

Solution

PLUG & PLAY

Users need to configure their rig and go live quickly, requiring concise onboarding and a streamlined interface for easier conversion.

SIMPLE BUT POWERFUL

Developed a solution featuring various difficulty levels within the app, introduced to users through progressive disclosure on the UI, catering to all user types.

MODULAR DESIGN SYSTEM

Implemented a new, modular design system for future expansion.

Hypothesis

Music artists care about their visuals, as much as they care for their brand, but they don't have enough resources & skills to produce first-world visuals.

Want to work together or just say hi?

Process

DISCOVERY

  • Low retention rates were observed in Volta Create's analytics.

  • Interviewed 20 avid users to pinpoint issues.

  • Regular meetings with stakeholders to evaluate risks, feasibility, and define scope.

The complexity of the tool deterred users, particularly DJs and music producers without 3D skills, due to the learning curve.

IDEATION

  • Conducted competitor analysis for discovering opportunities.

  • Held an Ideation Workshop with the team members for brainstorming.

  • Developed targeted personas: DJs, producers, visual artists for team alignment.

  • Created mid-fi wireframes and prototypes for testing.

VALIDATION

  • One concept received strong validation from testing with over 20 users.

  • Combined features from various concepts based on feedback, foregoing a second feedback round due to limited resources and confidence in the results.

  • Roadmap planning: define tickets and requirements together with stakeholders

Users preferred a minimalistic design, but they still needed a powerful tool.

Volta Redesign

2022

Volta XR

Enabling musicians to create audio-reactive and immersive performances with just a few clicks

Challenge

Low retention rates were primarily due to users finding Volta challenging to use, necessitating a product redesign to make it more approachable and useful for users.

Target user

Music artists & DJs with no 3D creation experience
